Previous Post A suggestion from an informed and thoughtful friend: … … … … … … … … … I’d like to offer a bit of a suggestion as solidarity re: Nathan Phillips (the elder who kept drumming in the face of colonial nonsense). Stand when you watch the video/listen to it. This is a way of showing respect to the song, the drums, the singers. (If you are unable to stand, do whatever you do when you show respect during something like this ❤ ) Watch his eyes. Watch his drum. He never breaks eye contact and he doesn’t stop drumming or singing (nor do the others). He was being a warrior. He continued out of prayer and respect for the song and the drum and the other things. He’s a sacred warrior and you get the opportunity to witness his work firsthand. #respect Once the song is done, the video concluded, get out and do whatever you will to do to address it. But while it’s on, remember this is a sacred act (despite what the others do). Love and solidarity.
