In case anyone at all who has been reading this hasn’t guessed yet, the titles don’t have much to do with the date in question, but for one thing: it’s the title of the song I woke up with in my head that day. Mystery solved. Moving on…
Yesterday was the Big Day. I woke up hella early got to Pearl Spa on Japantown by 9:00am, checked in, and got started with spa prep stuff like the whirlpool…
The cold pool…
And the steam room…
before my number was called and it was time for my treatment.
Not long into said treatment, I realized a few things:
I wanted to know why I hadn’t done this earlier and, like with a rollercoaster, I immediately wanted to do it again after it was over.I was super glad I hadn’t eaten, even though it meant my time at the spa was shorter than I would have liked. Her stomach work was…thorough.I thought I had been exfoliating. I use a sugar scrub 2-3 times a week and use an exfoliating scrunchy thing the rest of the time. The sheer amount of dead skin that still came off of me was both staggering and gross, but mostly fascinating.
So, after the scrub-down, body-wrap and massage, I headed upstairs and laid down in the Himalayan Salt Room…
And the clay ball pit…
Before taking my last shower and calling it a day (for that little activity anyway).
Then I headed to Ssisso, a Korean joint.
They didn’t have banchan, they had BOMBchan. Their kimchi was a little limp, but it still tasted good, their potato croquettes were tasty as fuck, and their fish cakes were just right.
I ordered the chicken wings, which were advertised as “spicy”. Ha! Still tasted good, but spicy they were not. The sides that came with the chicken wings were japchae, steamed rice, mandoo, and a simple beef soup.
To finish it all off, I ordered a bottle of peach soju, which tasted…exactly like peaches.
It was AWESOME.
Afterward, I walked my meal and slight drunkenness off at the Japantown mall, where I bought myself a Tony Moly panda cooling eye stick. The Tokidoki bags were not quite what I was looking for, and I ordered one later for myself.
Then I went home, briefly recounted my day to D—- and H—–, received their gifts (a stuffed wolf pup and Persona5 as well as a pair of lovely, thoughtful cards) and proceeded to nap for the next two hours.
Dubious Pupper is dubious.
I woke up to the smell of Panda Express Orange Chicken. Mmm mmm Dinner! Ate dinner, snuggled with H—–, and struggled, due to the stagnant weather outside, to get to sleep. But sleep I did and now I am here.
It was a good day. Probably the best on-my-own day I could have had under the circumstances. I definitely want to go to Pearl Spa again. I don’t think I need to get the super fancy gold wrap thingy again until next year, but the scrub and massage could very well be a monthly habit if I can find a way to work it out. It was also a good way to set the tone for the next 40 years. May it be as satisfying as that day was.
